SEW-EURODRIVE GmbH this week announced a major expansion in its U.S. manufacturing capabilities. The company will now locally assemble its P2.e planetary gear units in Wellford, S.C. This means lead times for the product are now as short as six weeks in two-stage and three-stage cataloged ratios and as little as 12 weeks for non-stocked options.
“With U.S.-based assembly of the P2.e line, we’re not just reducing lead times—we’re bringing world-class planetary gear performance closer to the industries that need it most,” said Austin Burdette, an IG product manager at SEW-EURODRIVE USA Inc. “It’s compact, powerful, and designed for intelligent integration into high-demand systems.”
Founded in 1931, SEW-EURODRIVE is a developer of industrial automation, holding more than 1,000 patents in gearmotors, frequency inverters, servo drives, and Industry 4.0 solutions. The company provides engineered systems for industries including automotive, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, mining, steel, logistics, energy, and more.
P2.e series provides compact power for heavy industries
SEW-EURODRIVE said it designed the P2.e planetary gear unit series to deliver maximum torque in a compact footprint. It has optimized fan-cooling options and new, modular motor inputs that no longer require a pre-stage gearbox.
Key features of the series include:
- High thermal energy: The series features an advanced enveloping-airflow fan system that provides thermal ratings. If needed, SEW’s engineered external cooling systems can be integrated as well.
- Durability: A direct bearing design with no outer ring improves service life and reliability, according to the company. A full complement of cylindrical roller bearings offers excellent load-carrying capacity.
- Flexibility: The series supports direct motor mounting, input shaft assemblies, and IEC and NEMA motor adapters. SEW also said it works seamlessly with its modular drive portfolio, including motors, frequency inverters, and control systems.
- Wide gear ratio and torque range: i = 15.2 to 332, with torque ratings from 220,000 to 1,100,000 lb.-in. (24.8 – 124 kNm). The series is available in two- or three-stage coaxial configurations for fine-tuned speed/torque performance. Right-angle input (X1KP.e) is also possible.
- Optimized lubrication options: The system is configurable with splash lubrication or external lubrication systems.
SEW said the P2.e planetary gear unit series is now available for heavy-duty applications. This includes bulk material handling, steel and metals, pulp and paper, oil and gas, power generation, and water treatment, as well as general heavy industries.
SEW-EURODRIVE serves North American market
SEW-EURODRIVE has operations in more than 50 countries, 17 manufacturing plants, 92 assembly facilities, and over 21,000 employees. The Bruchsal, Germany-based company claimed that its customized products can enhance efficiency, productivity, and sustainability. Its U.S. office is in Lyman, S.C.
SEW said the new domestic assembly capability enables faster project turnaround and delivers on the family-owned company’s commitment to supporting the North American market with high-performance drive technology, engineered for reliability, flexibility, and sustainability.
