McDonald’s Attempts To Woo Back Price-Sensitive Customers
As CNN detailed, the new McValue menu campaign is part of a continuing strategy to woo back customers who may have been avoiding a fast-food splurge due to economic conditions and hiked menu prices.
CNN writer Jordan Valinsky suggested that “the value perception of the chain has dimmed among its cash-conscious customers because the average price of its menu items has soared around 40% over the past five years.” He pointed out that the Golden Arches has suffered challenges to growth due to affordability concerns and a recent E. coli outbreak — the latter seeing $100 million spent on marketing and aid to franchises most impacted.
Additionally, as AP News reported, the previous inclusion of the $5 Meal Deal succeeded in winning back some customers, with Burger King taking action to match the move.
Cory Watson, McDonald’s owner/operator and National Value chair for 2025, made this redoubled effort to create value for the company’s customers a highlight of his remarks in the press release. “As local small business owners, my fellow franchisees and I are always listening to what our customers want from their neighborhood McDonald’s,” Watson said.
“No matter the city or the state, they’re telling us how important it is for them to find their favorite meals at affordable prices. And we couldn’t agree more. That’s why we’re committed to continuing to serve up great local deals — from special discount pricing on fan-favorite a-la-carte items to unique meal bundles, you can find great prices on iced coffees, soft drinks, cheeseburgers, chicken McNuggets and more. We have great value for everyone, whether you’re a party of one or feeding the whole family,” he added.
