A so-called “Krispy Kreme baby” was born in the parking lot of an Alabama location recently. The doughnut chain responded to this happy accident by giving all sorts of sweet surprises to the new mother and her bouncing bundle of joy. Let’s take a look at what happened.
‘Krispy Kreme Baby’ Gets Free Doughnuts and a Birthday Party
According to ABC News, earlier this month, a mother from Alabama gave birth to her baby boy in the parking lot of a Krispy Kreme store in Dothan. The doughnut business, in response, has given the family the best present possible: free doughnuts for a year and a birthday celebration for the youngster every year until he is an adult.
23-year-old Sha’Nya Bennett claimed she was taken aback when she gave birth to her son Dallas at the Krispy Kreme on Jan. 22 because she was scheduled to be induced the next day.
However, a huge snowstorm had hit the area the day before, making the roadways in the Dothan area dangerous, as WDHN reported.
“We had to wait on the car to defrost because of the snow and the ice,” Bennett recalled. “As we were getting closer to the hospital, the contractions, they were just coming back to back to back. By the time we got to the turn light by Krispy Kreme, that’s when I felt his head coming. [Mitchell, the baby’s father] did a U-turn into the Krispy Kreme parking lot and we heard the sirens down the road but by the time he parked, probably like a few seconds later, Dallas started coming out.”
Dallas is the first known baby whose birth certificate lists Krispy Kreme as their place of birth, according to Krispy Kreme.
Upon hearing about Dallas’s birth, Krispy Kreme Chief Growth Officer Dave Skena said in a statement, “We’re just so happy that Dallas, Sha’nya and Keon are all doing great. We’re in the business of sharing joy and sweetness, but the arrival of Dallas at a Krispy Kreme shop during a once-in-a-century snowstorm might be the sweetest ever.”
“Dallas’s birth certificate will be the first we know citing Krispy Kreme as ‘place of birth,’” he added. “And we’ll be thrilled to celebrate that with the family every Jan. 22.”
The Season of Love
Meanwhile, the popular doughnut chain is still celebrating the season of love with the Hearts in Bloom collection, allowing lovers (and those who want to be) to enjoy heart-shaped confections in time for Valentine’s Day.
Krispy Kreme has revealed a line of four new doughnuts that come in a stylish box reminiscent of a flower bouquet. These would be ideal for that special someone in your life, or you could keep them all for yourself if you’d like (after all, who are we to judge).
According to USA Today, the chain debuted the “Hearts in Bloom” collection on Jan. 27. The individual doughnuts are characterized as follows:
- Blooming Heart Doughnut: An unglazed heart-shaped doughnut stuffed with Cookies & Kreme filling, featuring a purple icing dip and topped off with hearts in bloom sprinkles.
- Love You Bunches Doughnut: An unglazed heart-shaped doughnut filled with Chocolate Kreme, dipped in red icing, and then accompanied by green icing stems and curled pink and red confectionary curls.
- You Are My Sunshine Doughnut: Another unglazed heart-shaped doughnut, this time incorporating a caramel Kreme filling. Chocolate icing dons this particular sweet, along with a looping green stem made from icing capped off with a sunflower candy.
- You Make My Daisy Doughnut: A fourth unglazed heart-shaped doughnut, complete with white Kreme and strawberry icing. Intricate yellow icing is paired with a cute little daisy candy.
