As more robots enter factories, warehouses, and other facilities, accurate orientation is increasingly important for reliable operations and safe navigation. 4D1 today launched T2, which it claimed provides millimeter-level 3D positioning for factories and process-centric industries.
“Traditional indoor positioning systems and robotics solutions struggle with accuracy, drift, and are too bulky for worker use, limiting automation,” stated Doug Langen, CEO of 4D1. “T2 delivers drift-free, 6DoF [degree of freedom] positioning combined with AI-ready data, enabling humans and machines to collaborate instantly and seamlessly.”
4D1 said it extends true autonomy indoors through precision positioning, enabling AI-driven process optimization and digital twins. The Calgary, Alberta-based industrial automation startup said its team is applying decades of experience in robotics, sensors, and automation to solve complex manufacturing challenges.
T2 is ready for operation
“T2 enables seamless collaboration between humans, robots, and AI systems, dramatically improving efficiency, safety, and productivity on the shop floor,” asserted 4D1. It listed key features of the real-time location system (RTLS):
- Drift-free 6DoF tracking — millimeter-level 3D position and full orientation for robots and operators
- Rugged, compact design — IP54 dust- and water-resistant for industrial reliability
- Advanced sensor fusion — ultrasonic signals combined with an inertial measurement unit (IMU) for calibration-free operation

4D1 focuses on factory automation
Built for bolt-level assembly validation, machine control, and collaborative robot training, T2 has shown measurable improvements in operational efficiency and workforce productivity, according to 4D1. The company added that its new system feeds high-fidelity data to AI systems for smarter decision-making.
